Summer time is almost here and so is Skin Cancer. If you are like me a Septuagenarian you should know we need to take more care of our exposed flesh. After all we grew up with Coppertone and parents to some extent urging us to get a great summer tan. Although a few automobiles of our youth had air condition I never saw one. We had our left arm extended out the window and the side vent was opened at the right angle for maximum air and the illusion of a cooler car. Ah the lost innocence of our generation. I have had skin cancer four times, twice as the doctor said, ”the good kind” and twice with Melanoma where surgery was required. I now see a dermatologist twice a year, sure enough he found another very small melanoma on my back, and he cut it out and sent it to the pathology lab and it was a melanoma but so small it wasn’t rated and that is why I go every six months. I live with a puppy and he certainly isn’t able to tell me what is going on my back. Here are the visual cues on Skin Cancer.

Actinic Keratoses

These dry, scaly patches or spots are precancerous growths.

Basel Cell

This type of skin cancer grows slowly. It rarely spreads to other parts of the body. Treatment is important because BCC can grow wide and deep, destroying skin tissue and bone.
